THE FIRST CELEBRATION OF DAY OF RELIGIOUS PLURALISM, LOS

Planning for the Day of Religious Pluralism began in 2014 in Los Angeles. Under the direction of the Los Angeles City Human Relations Commission, community, civic and religious leaders gathered together to highlight the importance of all religious groups, their contributions to the public square and their fundamental right to freely practice their faiths.

On April 21, 2015, these leaders gathered in City Hall.  Council member Mitch O'Farrell introduced a resolution declaring the day a Day of Religious Pluralism. Council member Mitch Englander seconded the resolution, and it was unanimously adopted in front of a packed audience in council chambers. City Controller Ron Galpern supported the resolution and took part in the day's events.

The City of Los Angeles Human Relations Commission (City HRC), convened the planning committee, which was led by Joumana Silyan-Saba, Senior Policy Advisor for the City HRC, and co-chaired by Mark Rothman, City HRC Commissioner.
